This used to be a page, mostly because when I wrote it I had no idea what a page in WordPress now it’s a proper post, even if the content is really old.

What you need:

1. A worn out N64 controller
2. A small screwdriver to open it up
3. Some 2-part epoxy
4. A small file (metal works best)
5. Some tape
6. A place to do this (keeping in mind that epoxy is not easy to remove once dried)

First things first, open up the controller, making sure not to drop the screws and lose them. Losing 1 or 2 won’t be the end of the world though, as I learned. Notice that there are a couple really small screws in the slot where the memory card/rumble pack plugs in. Those need to be removed as well.

Once it’s open, you will notice that the joystick part is pretty much self-contained. Unplug it, remove it from the controller, open it up and remove all the parts. You will probably notice a ton of scraped up plastic inside; that’s from the stick and that inner-core wearing down from use. It’ll probably look something like below.

I fell behind again, but only by a few days. I’m still trying my best to post on a regular basis though.

First we’ll start off with work and my commute to connect with the last post. I’ve gotten used to the commute and waking up early to make it now. I get tired earlier at night, but I guess that’s expected. I have once again avoided a ticket punching last week, so that makes 3 free rides on the train; not too bad.

I’ve been occupying my time on the train by listening to podcasts and playing a little bit of games, Planet Puzzle League exclusively I guess. The podcast I’ve been trying to catch back up on is the Dopecast which is all about drug news and the counter culture. I’m not one for their use personally but I think many of the illegal drugs out there should be legalized and it’s cool to hear what’s going on in that regard. Soon I will be reading on the train too, having purchased Sun Tzu’s The Art of War (since it’s been references often in my daily living for some reason) and Just for Fun, the story of Linus Torvalds (since it was inexpensive and I expect it’s an interesting read). I’ll let you know how those go.

Ever since I started my new job, there has been talk of getting a new office. The company had already been occupying two office spaces, having knocked down a wall that separated the two. We had so outgrown our old space that the development department (where I work) had been relocated to a third space on the first floor of the building; we weren’t even connected to the original office.

How fitting it was then that roughly a week before my one year anniversary (that’s right, I’m a senior developer as of today) we are finally occupying a new office. It was a year in the making, and this was the third space they had looked at and made moves on (after the first two fell through), but we made it. And since most of the office lives in the city, that’s where we moved to. Sadly, I live in the northern suburbs, meaning I nearly doubled my commute….

But it’s not all bad; the new office is really awesome, the location of it is amazing and the development department has finally been reunited with the rest of the company. I was personally looking forward to that later part the most and I’m happy we finally made the move.

Well, I know I said I was going to update the site here once I found out more about my back and all, but you know me, I’m a sucker for not coming through. Besides, nothing happened out of everything. The pain slowly went away, and while it’s not completely gone, I can move around again. The doctor basically told me to keep taking pain killers and see how it goes. Needless to say, I’m not going back to her……

More recently, it’s March 21st, which means March 17th came and went. What does that mean? Simply that St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone again, and man was this year awesome! Originally, the plan was to meet up in Milwaukee on Friday, hang out with Aaron and the rest of the gang, play some video games, sample some of the party beers the night before and get some early sleep for the long day of drinking ahead (which of course involved going to the bars at 6:00am). I was also going to bring up the 2 Wireless Rumblepad 2′s I have to make a total of 4, thus making the MAME gameplay exponentially sweeter.

Instead, my poker game at another Funger’s place ran long (I was suckered into another game) and when we finally wrapped it up at midnight, the Milwaukee crew was heading to bed. Fine by me, cause while I missed out on some quality MAME, I did basically break even on the night, got some beers, got some awesome pizza and went to sleep around midnight. The suck part was that I had to drive up to Milwaukee in the morning, but that wasn’t a big deal since I was only coming from Racine and not Illinois. All in all I was fine with everything. I had a sharp new haircut, I made it up to Unger’s place in about an hour (which is usually how long it takes me to get home; stupid ass Illinois drivers), and best of all, I settled on a price for my new motorcycle! Yes, it’s my birthday today. So far I’ve been made to tie a birthday balloon to my chair at work, got lunch paid for and had a number of people say happy birthday to me. Later tonight will include a trip to Mickey Finn’s and this weekend, more Whirlyball! So, there are sure to be pictures of all that up eventually too. But, birthdays are overrated; on to other things.

It’s been about a month since the last post, so it seems like as good a time as any to update things. The new guy started at work and he’s fitting in really well. He seems to know what he’s doing and he’s getting the hang of the system here. We also had the show we sponsored air, but without much added business. Still, things went pretty well, the show turned out really nice and there’s nothing to say people won’t buy from us later.

We’re also still on track for our move to the city over the first weekend in March. The official plan is to pack everything up, have a moving company move it all over the weekend and they be back in business at the new place the next Monday. We’ll see how well that goes over….. still, it’s pretty exciting! In preparation for my commute, I purchased a Nintendo DS Lite; more on that in a little bit. Continue reading →

Recently, I purchased a used Nintendo 64 (N64) from ebay so that I could play Super Smash Brothers. Why? Because it’s the best damn game of all times, that’s why! Well, that may not be entirely true, but it is a hell of a good time when you have a bunch of people to play it with, like parties.
